1.I don’t see a headless figure on that page. Marvel Maid’s face is in shadow but she has a head and the one you’re describing is what looks like an alien hammerhead shark man in a Superman type suit but I’m not sure who he’s meant to be! Maybe Liam can enlighten us! He also added the Super-Ant, who is lying unconscious nearby so it might have been an attempt to show some non-human heroes. Otherwise, the characters were all based on various Superman family counterparts from old stories.(I checked the script and the only other character mentioned in that panel is Wonder Man from Superman 163, August 1963 but the mystery figure doesn’t look much like him!)I didn’t actually kill any of the Superwatch interplanetary heroes. By that time I’d grown to hate the practise of using other peoples’ creations as disposable cannon fodder. They were just knocked out. They all got better. As for Superman, I was able to express most of my ideas about the character. There’s nothing major I haven’t done.2. I don’t usually feel any need to go back to something I’ve done. I regard the work more as a diary, so tend to forgive things that don’t work out as well as I’d hoped just as I would days or events that do the same. When I’ve gone back to a story, it’s usually been for a screen pitch, as with We3, The Invisibles, The Filth and others, where I’ve been able to streamline or change the narrative for what seems to me the better. The Happy! TV show gave me an opportunity to do everything I’d wanted to do in the comic but couldn’t for reasons of space. Darrick and I had four issues to tell a story that was crammed with interesting grotesques and imaginary friends and there was always more story to tell there, as far as I was concerned. Aside from the train scene from issue 3 which I think is better than the corresponding subway scene from the show – but that was changed to have the daughter reveal up front in episode 1 of the show rather than as a big game changer turn at the end of Act 2 in the comic - the TV version feels to me like the ‘real’ Happy! and I’m much happier with it. I felt I’d botched the end in the comic where it’s unclear exactly what’s happening on the last page (the password is the blue feather Sax was holding in his hand and the Don’s fortune, which possession of the feather gives access to, is held by the ‘Blue Feather’ wine shop owner, but all that’s really vague). The show gave me a chance to fix the whole password strand, and to expand on the villains like Smoothie and Blue to great effect (both Patrick Fischler and Richie Coster brought their A-games to the performances), and we had Chris Meloni spontaneously generating incredible off-the-cuff improv dialogue for Nick Sax, so that was one I wanted to improve on, and then did, in a different medium.3. I had no particular feelings about Parallax. I wasn’t reading theable to express s most of my ideas about the charact to expres Green Lantern comics when all that was going on (or if I was reading, I don’t remember being particularly impressed or moved – I didn’t like Green Lantern when I was a kid, and didn’t get into the concept until the Geoff Johns run). I remember when he came back as a good guy and healed the sun during the Final Night crossover but I had Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern in my JLA stories and it was his book, as written by Ron Marz, that I remember reading in the ‘90s. Hal Jordan had been gone for so long that I had Dream of the Endless telling Kyle that he would surpass Hal because he understood one thing Hal did not – fear. I was sure Kyle would be the Green Lantern going forward and didn’t expect the Silver Age status quo to roll back so powerfully in the 2000s.
