(I read The Silmarillion by Tolkien as edited by his son Christopher, and it was an awful lot of this:‘Thus Flinderfell and the High Ones of the Quindarilli, did follow the Sons of Verigrim unto the regions of Valtemoro in search of the Orogothrem that were lost unto the Vales of Mimlindelo…“Fortunately, I like that kind of thing, which is just as well, or I’d never have made it through. There’s some incredible comic book stuff like the battle between Morgoth and Fingolfin, where Morgoth, wearing his iron crown, is wielding Grond, the ‘Hammer of the Underworld’ and carrying a monstrous black shield into an epic battle of ultimate powers, a bit like my scene in Superman Beyond with Superman vs. Mandrakk.)
(Toxic positivity for me, I suppose, is when people describe Superman as a symbol of ‘hope’. What kind of hope? In what circumstances? How does a symbol of hope help us in any way? Reducing him to a symbol of hope is to empty him out. Superman is for me a symbol of activism. Superman appears when the very human Clark Kent tears of his shirt, jumps into action and gets shit done, rather than the aspect of us that vainly ‘hopes’ everything will just turn out right if we keep scrolling and don’t think too much.)
(My Superman movie pitches were different from the comic stuff. Some of them borrowed from All-Star Superman. I much prefer to tailor my work to the medium, so stories I design to work on the page don’t necessarily translate to the screen and vice versa. I re-used a sequence from one of the Superman pitches to open Action Comics ♯14 – the ‘it’s a bird, it’s a plane’ scene.)
(Back in the real world, I’ve greatly enjoyed the five episodes of Vision Quest that I’ve watched so far and Godzilla Minus One was great! I hated seeing Godzilla with his head blown off at the end but everything else about this one was pitch perfect.)·最近陆续有不少名人离世,最让我难过的是帕特里克·斯图尔特爵士,他是我非常喜爱的演员,我《星际迷航:下一代》看得不多,对他更深的印象来自《我,克劳狄乌斯》《亚瑟王神剑》和《沙丘》,我很爱听他那雄浑动听的嗓音,他在银幕上的气场沉稳,富有感染力,我们只能在《复仇者联盟5》里看到他最后一次饰演查尔斯·泽维尔,但我们会永远怀念他
神演技!(Among various recent celebrity deaths, the one that stung was Sir Patrick Stewart, an actor I really liked. I didn’t watch much of Star Trek: The Next Generation and was more familiar with him from I Claudius, Excalibur and Dune. I loved to listen to his magnificent voice and found him a compelling and authoritative screen presence. We’ve yet to see his last hurrah as Charles Xavier in Avengers Doomsday, but he will be missed. My all-time favourite Patrick Stewart scene is this one:Patrick Stewart on Extras. ‘Their clothes have rotted off…’Genius!)
